Holiday parties and New Year's Eve: getting home safe on the Northshore

November 7, 2026 · NorthshoreXpress

December on the Northshore fills up fast: office parties in Covington, dinners in the French Quarter, family gatherings across the lake, and New Year's Eve everywhere. The fun part is easy. The hard part is the ride home at midnight, when rideshare is scarce on our side of the lake and nobody should be driving the Causeway after a few drinks.

Why late nights are tricky on the Northshore

  • Fewer rides after midnight. Rideshare drivers thin out late at night in Mandeville, Covington and Slidell, and surge pricing is common on holiday weekends.
  • Long trips back across the lake. A ride home from New Orleans is a 24-mile trip over the Causeway or a run out I-10 over the Twin Span. Many drivers won't take it.
  • Busy roads. Holiday weekends bring heavier traffic and more patrols on the Causeway, I-12 and Highway 190.

Plan the ride before the first toast

  1. Book ahead. New Year's Eve and the Friday and Saturday nights in December book up first.
  2. Set the pickup and the ride home together. We'll take you there and come back for you at the time you choose.
  3. Build in some flexibility. Parties run long. Text us about 30 minutes before you're ready and your driver will head your way.
  4. Ride together. Group rides keep everyone together and make it easy to split the cost.

Office and company parties

Hosting the company party? A few shuttle runs between the venue and employees' homes, or to a central parking spot, keep everyone safe and the evening relaxed. Tell us your headcount and timing and we'll put together a plan.

New Year's Eve in New Orleans

If you're heading into the city for New Year's Eve, expect road closures and heavy traffic downtown. We'll drop you as close as traffic control allows, agree on a pickup spot away from the crowds, and get you back across the lake after midnight. The same goes for the Sugar Bowl and other big downtown events over the holidays.

Getting to the Dome for a game instead? See Saints game day from the Northshore.
