The Mississippi Gulf Coast is one of the easiest getaways from the Northshore: a straight run east on I-10 to a string of casino resorts with shows, restaurants, spas and golf. The only catch is the drive home late at night. Here's how to plan the trip.
How far is it?
Times are approximate, with normal traffic:
- From Slidell: about 35 to 45 minutes to Bay St. Louis, 50 minutes to Gulfport and about an hour to Biloxi.
- From Mandeville and Covington: add 30 to 40 minutes via I-12 to I-10.
- From New Orleans: about an hour to Gulfport and an hour and a half to Biloxi.
What's where along the Coast
- Bay St. Louis: the closest casinos to Louisiana, including Hollywood Casino Gulf Coast and Silver Slipper.
- Gulfport: Island View Casino Resort, right on the beach.
- Biloxi: the biggest cluster, including Beau Rivage, Hard Rock, IP, Golden Nugget, Harrah's Gulf Coast, Margaritaville, Boomtown, Palace and Treasure Bay.
Closer to home, Caesars New Orleans is downtown, Treasure Chest is in Kenner by the lake, and Boomtown New Orleans is on the West Bank.
